I’d been looking for this short documentary for a couple of years, so I’m delighted that Nomadas Producciones published ‘Jurria – The Guardians of the Pole’ on their YouTube channel in March 2025. A short description of the documentary: ‘Jurria, The Guardians of the Pole’ is a documentary which tells the comeback of the The Shepherd’s Leap in the island of Gran Canaria, thanks to the effort and teachings of an old shepherd from Tasarte called Master Paco. Produced by Isidoro Falcon and directed by Pedro Cubiles, it is a trip to the deepest of the Canary traditions, illustrating how aboriginal people used sticks to move by the rugged relief in their pastoral task and how it has survived the passage of time. It is also a spectacular tour of the most emblematic places on the island of Gran Canaria. Its official premiere took place in December 2020 at the BBK Mendi Film Festival in Bilbao.
